As pressões internas e da própria Universal pela queda de Honorilton sempre existiram, mas ficaram mais intensas em 2012, com a perda de audiência da Record.
A emissora entrou em uma forte política de corte de gastos, com terceirização de serviços, muitas demissões, revisão de contratos e dispensas de artistas, como o apresentador Gugu Liberato.
